What type of scoliosis do you have? Double Curve When was your scoliosis first diagnosed? August of 2001 What was your curvature then? 30 degrees How was it detected? Through a doctors physical with the little thing they run over your back How did you feel when you found out you had scoliosis? I wasn't nervious, but I don't know why. What treatment was used initially? Nothing. I went directly to the surgery What was your curvature when your doctor suggested surgery? 42 degrees When did the doctors suggest the surgery? September 2001 How did you feel about needing the surgery? Not really nervious or anything Which type of surgery did you have? Anterior Fussion How many rods/instrumentaion were used? One rod, Five screws Describe everything you remember from the day of surgery. I got there really early in the morning... I don't remember what time, and I sat in the waiting room with like 4 or 5 other people in it and I remember thinking how much I just wanted to go back to sleep. I was never nervious or anything. Then I went back down this hallway and passed this thing that looked like it came out of a spacestation. I walked into this tiny room with a bed and a TV and a bathroom. They gave me a gown to change into. They were going to give me an IV, but I told them I wanted the "purple stuff" first (you know, the stuff that you drink and it makes you feel drunk). lol. Then they took me back to this little area with curtins and this guy came in and asked if I was cold and covered me up. Then I don't know what happend after that. What was your post-operative curve? 0 degrees What was the date of the surgery? October 8th, 2001 How many days were you in the hospital? 5 days I think What pain medications did you have? Morphine and Tylenoex Did you have any complications? No. Have you had/did you have any follow up treatment? No. Did you loose weight? Yeah, but I can't remember how much. What would you tell other scoliosis patients about your experence? Everything that happend to me and not to be nervious because you don't realize it's a big deal untill it is over. |
